Nilambure – Shornure

The Nilambur - Shornur Railway Route.

The “Nilambur – Shornur” railway route is one of the most beautiful railway routes in India. It is also one of the first railway lines in Kerala, built in 1921 during the British era, to transport teak wood from Nilambur.

The 66 km route has 12 stations, passing through Palakkad and Malappuram districts. Some of the main stations are Nilambur, Melattur, Cherukara, Vallapuzha, Angadipuram, Melattur, and Vaniyambalam.

This route has been featured in several Malayalam movies, including “Krishnagudiyil Oru Pranayakalathu”. The route is also popular among tourists, with several tour packages available from Nilambur.

Some of the notable trains on this route include the Rajyarani Express from Nilambur to Kochuveli, the Kottayam Express from Nilambur to Kottayam, and the Palakkad Passenger from Nilambur to Palakkad.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Melattur Railway Station was closed, but it remains a popular destination among travelers
